When America’s children are being poisoned, what do we do?
Express concern, worry a little and move on … leave it to the professionals? Or is this something we need to know more about? Is there something we could do to protect our children?
What about when it’s a neighbor’s child? What about when it’s yours? How does a parent react when a cluster of serious diseases occurs around us? Relocate? This disease though, is not just in California; it’s reported in Asia, and Australia as well so what’s going on? Is there a common thread?
“SUNDAY Feb. 23, 2014, 2014 — A rare “polio-like syndrome” has caused paralysis in about 20 children from across California, according to a report released Sunday by physicians in the San Francisco Bay Area.”
These children are too young (3 to 12 years of age) to have been “experimenting with drugs” so that’s not likely, but is it somehow related? Doctor’s comments in the article, says it looks as if the paralysis these children are experiencing, … is permanent …
“The children, who are between the ages of 3 and 12, developed what is called acute, or sudden, flaccid paralysis — weakness or loss of muscle tone resulting from injury or disease of the nerves that stimulate muscles to move.”
“What’s causing this” is the question! Can this be discovered and changed or stopped — before it spreads, … gets out of control?
Stanford doctors assure residents, it’s not an epidemic, …
“The culprit could be a virus strain called enterovirus-68 that has been linked to polio-like outbreaks in children in Asia and Australia, Van Haren said. But not all of the victims tested positive for that virus, so the cause of the disease is still unclear.”
Having recently been diagnosed with ALS, (and @ the age of 7 [1949] – had a short bout with polio) I have paid more attention than most, to what I feel “causes” of diseases may derive from and there is good information available for people who research … ALS is a Neurological condition; to me, it looks as if this children’s “disease” may also have similar roots — the — “you are what you eat” — philosophy.
Deducing that it’s possible that “water quality may very well be linked to several problems, … after all California is in the throws of a drought (which would possibly impact the intensity level of “impurities/ contaminant” in the public water systems – Asia and Australia are also known to have water purification problems … yes; this is a lay-person’s conjecture but …
