If the White House really wanted the states to enact laws criminalizing motorists who drive under the influence of drugs, it would have been simple, …. but they’ve done nothing, making it look as if they had!
Nothing unusual, nothing’s different; nothing’s as it seems. They “call for action”, while in reality, …. doing NOTHING.
All they’d have had to do was to have with-held federal monies for highway construction, but they didn’t ….
Instead, they pulled an end run, expecting the public to believe them, waiting for their pat-on-the-back!
And then, … as if he didn’t understand that the drug lobby had won, …. or pretending they hadn’t, …..
NORML Deputy Director Armentano (tongue in cheek) commented:
“While driving under the influence of illicit and licit substances is arguably an issue worthy of legislative concern, the expansion of zero-tolerant or arbitrary per se laws – particularly for cannabis – neither addresses the problem nor offers a legitimate solution …..”
….. yada, yada, yada.
“Fifteen states have passed laws clarifying that the presence of any illegal drug in a driver’s body is per se evidence of impaired driving.”
Now that, ….. can put people who’ve used, in jail, as it should.
But did the White House pressure the states to take action? NO!
Drug lobbyists, of course, oppose the implementation of per se DUID laws, even though the statistics show those driving under the influence of cannabis have significantly more “accidents” … er, ….. aaaa …. I meant, “collisions!”
The drug’s metabolites remain present in urine for weeks after use and studies have consistently proven that the presence of marijuana metabolites exhibits psychomotor impairment or an elevated risk of motor accident.
By contrast, NORML reports their own studies differ ……
Well DUH! Who’d-a-thought?!
And of course, their study, says that the impact of “per se” drugged driving laws have found that the enforcement of such policies has “done nothing to reduce DUID or deter the typical offender.”
Again, ….. DUH! Did anyone expect them to state anything different?
The incredible amount of money put into the drug legalization movement by George Soros, (the pocket, in which Obama sleeps) has had it’s intended influence ….. nada!
