From Israel comes a news item which should alert all Americans that our politicians are failing us … and that they’ll continue to do so, until they have no choice but to react to an existing tragedy which could have been prevented!
The threat of portable-weapon air attacks has grown considerably over the last few years. Israeli politicians have taken appropriate action, badly showing up American politicians!
Israeli airlines are now in the process of equipping aircraft with defense systems that protect them from shoulder launched, ground to air, heat-seeking missiles.
We, on the other hand, have our heads in the sand! Technological achievement though outstanding, politicians have proven once again that they are living in a not-so-parallel-universe where decisions are made at a twice-burned, reluctant, snail’s pace – not necessarily one that corresponds to reality of today’s global threats!
Once an American airline company takes action and follows in Israel’s footsteps regarding this issue,( if it proceeds such a disaster) they’ll have an undying loyalty from its customer base!
According to the Israeli company installing this system, the’ll integrate advanced fiber laser technology together with a high rate thermal camera and a small, highly dynamic mirror turret to provide effective, reliable and affordable protection to all types of aircraft and under all operational conditions.
The initial detection of incoming threats is provided by a missile warning system. When a threatening missile is detected, the warning is passed to the DIRCM which then directs a thermal tracker to acquire and track the threat. A powerful laser beam is then fired accurately at the missile causing it to be deflected away from the aircraft.
And American airline companies? Where are they now that our politicians continue to fail to uphold their sworn duties – to protect and defend? They’re doing so by continuing to fail to secure our borders!
Israel’s State Comptroller investigated this issue back in 2011, asking why Israeli passenger planes haven’t been equipped with missile defense systems – – – Seven years ago, pilots working for the three Israeli airlines warned the then-Minister of Transportation Shaul Mofaz that the situation is a prescription for a “Fiasco”.
Back in November 2002, terrorists tried to bring down an Arkia airline plane as it took off from Mombasa Airport. Their rockets missed, however, and the disaster was averted.
And America? We continue to … stand and watch …
