The news story didn’t go into how it (cleaning up Heroin Hill – link below) came about, but I suspect (knowing the prosecuting Attorney) that there was a threat to confiscate the property if it didn’t go away.
That’s what made the “Oregon Country Fair” pretend to clean up its act …
That only changed the “openness”; now the drugs are somewhat hidden is all. The real partying there, begins at night, when the paying customers leave – it’s then that the heavier drugs come out! This year, undercover cops will be there more than before.
Change, sometimes, … is only a matter of perception – another shell game! Most of the city / county “fathers” continue to look the other way, but I acknowledge, it’s better than before — when I watched parents sit in a circle, out in the open, and share pot with their children!
Back to Eugene’s drug problem … what you’ll see in the video is the syringes collected on site — what gave the isolated place its name – “Heroin Hill“.
But first, all this reminds me of the clean-up crew that cleaned up Autzen Stadium after the notorious Grateful Dead concerts there. Reports were, that a Christian youth group did the actual cleaning and collected 3-large, basketball sized bunches of syringes, all rubber-banded together resulted in one young man accidentally jabbed his leg with one.
It was the next planned DEAD concert that former “U of O President Dave Frohnmeyer gave the order that it was over with! He too, was a good man to shut it down! Of course, our promise that if another young person died there, or on the way home from the concert, we’d do everything in our power to see to it that the parents were aware, and filed a wrongful death suit against the U of O. (at times it takes a little leverage) … probably didn’t hurt.
That year, the “DEAD” moved their concert to Portland Meadows – and Trisha Ann Storms did die, as a result, … but that’s for another blog, for another day.
HEROIN HILL? Good riddance! Let’s hope it stays GONE!
