Most people who watch the news heard of the rape of a Jewish journalist in Tahrir Square during the riots ….. at least if they watched other than the alphabet networks; that they didn’t cover it well, is a huge understatement. I include the interview here, ONLY because 1) what happened, is so wrong it needs to be known, 2) she resides in a foreign nation, and I pray that this article will not impact her.
The journalist worked for CBS’s “60 Minutes“, so they may have been overwhelmed with the circumstances at the beginning, but they did finally cover it …. It was deservedly well done! Every person needs to watch this!
But now, …. a fully veiled Egyptian woman has been kidnapped and gang-raped by 8 men.
Several of the men have confessed; one of the men had previously been released from prison for raping another woman. (Very likely, he was released during the upheaval, when the riots were out of control, an intentional tactic used to obfuscate what was truly happening with Mubarak.)
A 2008 study published by the EGYPTIAN CENTER FOR WOMEN’S RIGHTS (ECWR) stated that 60% of Egyptian women and 98% of foreign women are harassed on a daily basis! 14% of the foreign women said they’d NEVER return to Egypt and that they would warn those they knew …
Mona Hassan, a 28 year old researcher in Cairo stated that: “It is unacceptable what is happening to Egypt and its women.”
How is Egypt different from other Islamic countries? A good question! Hopefully, Libya will not go the same direction yet the religion there, is also Islam. Islam considers women as possessions …. and the Qu’ran allows husbands to beat their wives.
