Not often, will I criticize the military; I greatly respect them, especially General Petraeus who has NOW, taken over control of the incident.
Not having been there, all I can go on at this point is the media, (whom I do NOT trust), but still, there are questions.
If, as stated, the hostage Rich Phillips, of the U.S. Maersk Line’s “Alabama” made a break for it and dove overboard, why was the ‘lifeboat’, full of pirates not immediately blown to smithereens? The Bainbridge should have had every gun on board trained on the lifeboat, just waiting for something like this – a standoff, waiting for the others to flinch.
This is no isolated incident and it’s about time the U.S. dealt with these criminals who are actually terrorists – remember the movie “Blackhawk Down”? These are the same people – that incident was also an attempt to deliver aid to a poor people; these terrorists exploit the problem demanding millions of dollars. They should be given the money – either with a tracking divice, so small it cannot be found or laced with Anthrax! These pirates deserve to die – NOW!
And, if another ship which is holding hostages, is (as the media states) . . . is on its way to interfere, with this situation, or assist / help the pirates, one of our military ships, a helicopter, a jet, … should disable its’ rudder and insure they cannot get to the location and interfere.
Why the inaction?????
I know President Obama is most often compared with spineless former president Carter, but until now, I’d held my hopes out for his standing up to this outrage . . . . So far, he’s met this challenge with what can only be called – inept inaction.
Internationally, Somalia needs to either take care of this problem or be blockaded!
